Resources

Looking for some resources to help you with your writing? These are resources that I use.

First: A video break for you:

Please note: This page will be updated and added to frequently.

My Favorite Name Generator: FakeNameGenerator.com
Unlike the other human name generators, this one gives you a lot of information. You probably could write a short story with what the site provides you.

The word "Said": Spwickstrom.com
You don't want always to use "said" and adding an adverb afterward seems wrong. So if you need to use something other than "said" this site categorizes it in emotions to make it easier for you to find what you need.

Emotion Thesaurus: Cheat Sheets for writing Body Language
Show not tell, but what does that mean, especially when it's written down? Instead of "telling" someone's emotion, you can describe what someone is doing to convey that emotion,

Example:
"Hey, that's not fair!" The man shouted. He was angry. (telling)
"Hey, that's not fair!" The man crossed his arms and glared at her. (showing, and also - no dialogue tag)

Writer's block?

What I do? I try to write the ending first or at least another scene that happens later than where I"m stuck. Another thing I've done is write a short story or work on my website instead. Sometimes your brain won't come up with anything and stressing over it will make the situation worse.
